B.S. Information Science and Technology

Erica is a senior at the University of Arizona working towards a B.S. in Information Science and Technology with a minor in Computer Science, expected graduation May 2022. She is currently interning for the Computational Diversity Project funded by State Farm Community Grants with Dr. Bryan Heidorn, director of the Center for Digital Society and Data Studies.

As an intern, Erica works closely with educators of the Tucson Unified School District to develop and deliver place-based and identity-based computer and information science curricula. She also volunteers with Microsoft Philanthropies TEALS (Technology Education and Literacy in Schools) Program to build sustainable computer science programs in high schools, with a focus on serving students excluded from learning technical skills because of race, gender, or geography.

Erica is supported by the CDSDS through the State Farm Proctorship Grant and works with the Microsoft TEALS program to teach computing skills to high school students with focus on girls and minorities in STEM careers. She also is helping to develop educational software using the Turtle programming platform.
