Welcome Betsy Williams, CDSDS Post Doctoral Research Associate

Oct. 26, 2016

Betsy Williams (PhD, Stanford University) is a postdoctoral research associate at the Center for Digital Society and Data Studies. She believes that the process of exchanging ideas can improve learning, cooperation, and civil society, and she studies how technologies and social contexts shape these outcomes.  Her training in economics and education focused on using causal inference methodologies and randomized experiments to build social scientific knowledge.  Her dissertation describes how participants interacted in three-month-long Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for teacher professional development.

Betsy will be working as a postdoctoral researcher for the Center, focusing on issues of privacy, bias, and human behavior under surveillance, working most directly with Drs. Yotam Shmargad in SI and Samara Klar in Government/Public Policy.
